Most people spend decades going through the motions.
They work hard, show up, and raise their families, and then they hit the end and realize how much they never actually did.
I built my life around one document specifically so that never happens to me.
The Five Habits I Never Skip
A vivid vision changed how I run my own life, and it comes down to five habits I return to constantly.
- Write a four or five page description of the person you want to become, covering fitness, relationships, and how you actually spend your days
- Put real time on the calendar for the people you love, not just birthdays but trips that mean something
- Keep a living bucket list you actually revisit, not one buried in a drawer somewhere
- Protect a sleep routine that travels with you, wherever you happen to wake up
- Treat physical movement as non negotiable, even when the schedule looks impossible
The Vision That Directs My Life
My wife and I wrote a four page vivid vision together describing our marriage and where we’re headed, and it guides almost every decision we make as a couple.
I keep a personal one too, and I’ve published my bucket list online, over a hundred things I want to try, learn, or experience, alongside everything I’ve already crossed off.
Sharing it with my spouse and my kids keeps it alive instead of letting it gather dust.
Why These Habits Compound
None of this works as a single burst of motivation.
We’ve lived in seventy countries over the last five years, so our sleep routine had to become portable: dimming lights early, red light glasses, white noise, and a hard cutoff on liquids before bed.
Movement works the same way. I take the stairs on instinct now, and today that meant hiking twenty minutes up a hill in Sicily just to reach a gym.
Bottom Line
A better life isn’t an accident that happens to people who work hard enough. It’s built from a vision you wrote down and habits you actually protect.
