Bedside Reading® Celebrates "National Author's Day"

Highlights November and December authors

Stamford, CT (November 1, 2019) - Bedside Reading®, the program that places complimentary books by the bedsides in luxury hotels and the Hamptons, is honoring all authors, in addition to those authors, who have placed, and are placing, their books in Bedside Reading’s program this year, by encouraging everyone to curl up with their favorite book and toast the writer who worked hard to create this wonderful way for all of us to escape.

Bedside Reading makes it easier for travelers to read too! Anyone traveling to one of their luxury and lifestyle partner hotels in the U.S. will find a book by the bedside for them to read and take home, complimentary. And in 2020, the program will host its 2nd Annual Hamptons Bedside Reading Authors Weekend, Feb 28- March1, 2020, where guests at participating Hamptons hotels and inns will meet several authors in an engaging and fun-filled weekend.

“It’s a lot of blood, sweat and tears for anyone to create a product they are proud of,” said Jane Ubell-Meyer, Founder of Bedside Reading. “It is no different with authors who work hard, often alone, and then launch their “babies” into the world, wondering how it will be received. It is wonderful that there is a day where we can remind everyone of the beauty of their work and the pleasure it brings. We encourage everyone to re-read their favorite book, download a new book or go to their local library or bookstore and discover someone new”

History of National Author’s Day

Nellie Verne Burt McPherson, a teacher, avid reader and president of the Bement, Illinois Women’s Club in 1928, wrote a fan letter to a favorite author of hers (fiction writer, Irving Bacheller) while recuperating from an illness. Bacheller, in return, sent her an autographed copy of another of his works as a thank you and McPherson decided she would show her appreciation to this gesture by submitting an idea for a National Author’s Day to her Woman’s Club. They endorsed it and The United States Department of Commerce recognized this day in 1949.

“Celebrating authors and sharing them with old and new fans is what we do,” Jane explained. “And we also want to cheer on all authors who are participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). We can’t wait to read what you are creating!”
